Walter Rand



The Walter Rand Institute for Public Affairs advance Rutgers' threefold missions of research, education, and public service by engaging faculty, students, public servants, elected officials, non-profit professionals, and community leaders in the real world challenges that shape the lives of citizens in Southern New Jersey. Through the Rand Institute, Rutgers-Camden's expertise is focused on addressing those challenges.

To achieve its mission, the Rand Institute collaborates with and augments the efforts of residents, social institutions, government agencies, organizations and businesses, serving as a major resource to each by providing:

  • Applied Policy Research: Policy analysis, evaluation, and convening of forums on critical and controversial issues.
  • Training and Technical Assistance to state and local government agencies as well as non-profit organizations in the areas of strategic planning, capacity building, public finance, special projects, and information management.
  • Educational Outreach: Education initiatives for the region's secondary and community college population.
