The Department of Fine Arts Theater Program

The mission of the theater program at Rutgers-Camden is to develop the skills, craft, and imagination of its students, as well as to provide them with a strong understanding of the history of the theater within a liberal arts context. In addition, the theater program stresses the collaborative nature of the art form by emphasizing the creative process and new play development. As a theater program operating within a larger fine arts department, we offer students a unique opportunity for interdisciplinary work. The curriculum includes courses in the areas of acting, directing, playwriting, technical theater, and dramatic literature/theater history. The program sees theater studies as a whole--an entire package with no one aspect being more important than another. The student who successfully completes the prescribed course of study will be prepared for graduate school or a variety of career options.
