Pinelands Field Station

Field Station Facilities

The Pinelands Field Station facilities consist of the main building, which serves as offices for Rutgers personnel and visiting researchers; a cabin and greenhouse; a garage; a dormitory; and two fully-equipped laboratory buildings.

Main Building

Pinelands Field StationThe main building contains office space to accommodate six to eight researchers. The building is equipped with central heating and air conditioning.

Researchers have access to networked PCs, printers and a scanner. Internet access, telephones, a fax machine and photocopier are available.

A small library also serves as a conference/seminar room and is capable of holding 15-20 people. It contains many books on the ecology of the local area and several current journals.

In addition, the main building has a fully-equipped kitchen with sink, stove/oven, refrigerator and microwave.

Greenhouse and Growth Chambers

greenhouseAn 8-by-5-meter plastic sheet-covered greenhouse is available for research use by students, faculty and field station staff. It has approximately 25 square meters of bench area. Automatic watering, supplemental lighting and temperature control are available.

The station has a large and two small environmental growth chambers with light and temperature controls. The large chamber has humidity control as well.

Cabin

cabinThe greenhouse is attached to the cabin, which is occupied by Ken Clark of the U.S. Forest Service and his team.

Garage

garageThe garage houses U.S. Forest Services offices, a workshop and a large open meeting room used as teaching space.
