Grading/Assessment

Grades will be based on the following:

• 4-5 problem sets that will be assigned every other week starting from the end of week 1. Each problem set will include some theory questions and some programming in an incomplete Jupyter (Python) notebook that you will have to complete as instructed. You may also have to prepare other documents for submission if asked. Each completed problem set will be due back on Canvas excatly 2 calendar weeks after being assigned. There will be a progressive penalty of -25% per day, or part thereof, for late submissions. I will drop the worst grade among the problem sets. Overall, the problem sets will count for 25% of your grade.
• Two take-home exams (20% each): Exam 1 will cover curricular material from the first 7 weeks, and Exam 2 will cover material from week 8 onwards. There is no final exam in the course.
• Two projects done in small groups, with each project worth 15% of the grade. The projects will be based on real-world data, perhaps even an actual business case requiring data analysis. The projects will be presented in class and will require groups to write comprehensive reports describing their work.
• In-class participation and assessment (e.g. in-class quizzes) counts for 5% of the grade.
