Assignments, Quizzes, Exams and Grading Policy

Most homework assignments will be of the self-test variety, and will entail answering questions from the textbook or taking self-tests on the WebCT site. I will not grade such assignments but will be more than happy to clarify any doubts that you may have.

There will be some hands-on assignments that will be worth 15% of your grade. These assignments will involve the use of some software tools and packages.

I will also design about 3-4 online quizzes that you will take on the WebCT interface. Each quiz will typically cover about a week's worth of material. Altogether, the quizzes will count for 35% of your grade.

There will be two in-class midterm exams, the first on March 1st and the second on May 1st. Each exam will be worth 25% of the total grade and will typically test you on the material covered in the 3 weeks or so prior to the exam date.

While there is no fixed scale for converting numeric grades to letter grades, you should be aware that a score less than 50% will automatically entail a D or an F grade on the course. Likewise, a score above 85% will automatically merit an A/A+ grade. For scores in between, the letter grade will be based on the statistical distribution of scores.
