French 131:01 Intermediate French

French 131 is an intensive review of French grammar designed to improve your reading, writing and oral skills. In addition, we will continue our exploration into French and Francophone culture through readings of various genres and class discussions.

Texts
Interaction: Révision de grammaire française and accompanying Cahier (Onge / Onge / Kulick) 5th edition. Heinle & Heinle Publishers.

Course Requirements:

Assignments
Homework must be completed for every class. In addition to grammar exercises, we will be reading fictional works by various writers from all periods of French and Francophone literature. These readings will be supplemented by contemporary articles focused on aspects of French and Francophone cultures.

Attendance
Regular attendance is not only required but an essential part of your success in this course. You will be allowed 3 unexcused absences. Any absence from a test must be documented by a medical excuse or from a note from the Dean of Students in the case of a non-medical emergency. Students having more than 3 unexcused absences will receive a lower grade.

Grades
The final grade for the course will be determined by the grades on exams, on both written and oral exercises, lab work, as well as regular attendance, participation and effort in class.

Exams (6): 30%
Compositions: 15%
Homework & Participation: 15%
Labwork: 10%
Final Exam: 25%
