
SYLLABUS
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
An investigation of species counterpoint in two and three parts. The course
will focus on understanding basic voice-leading principles underlying the works
of many stylistic periods and composers. Information will be provided through
assigned readings, class lectures, and demonstrations, as well as the student's
own score study and writing practice. In addition, class time will be used for
listening, singing (or playing), and studying music of the period.

Notebook paper, pencils, and manuscript paper

You may stop by my office at any time the door is open (FA213), or you may schedule an individual appointment if necessary. My regular office hours are MTTh 3:00-4:00 and W 11:00-12:10, 3:00-4:00. GRADING:
Grades will be based on class participation (including selected written assignments), counterpoint projects, quizzes, and the final counterpoint project.
