If your last high school class in the language you wish to continue was at least 10 years ago, 
you are not required to take a placement test, and you may begin with Elementary I (101).

But remember, your requirement is one course at the Elementary II (102) level or above.
If you think you might remember enough of what you learned in school to be able to skip 101, you should take the placement test to find out.  It might save you a semester.
