Review Questions 3

Due:Feb.26, Choose one of these to answer on no more than two typed pages. Use citations from the book to make your case, whether quoting or paraphrasing. Ex: (Jaimes, p.3). Use your group to research the answers, but write the answers yourself. (People may use similar research, but should construct their answer individually.) One of these questions will be on the first test. DO NOT USE MORE THAN TWO SHORT QUOTES IN THIS PAPER.

1. What happened to the Native peoples in the Northeast during the period before during and after the American Revolution (1760-1812)? What area was affected and who lived there at the time? What happened to them? Who did it and why?

2. Based on the federal criteria for recognition as an Indian, why do the Iroquois land claims have merit? What issues of Indian law arise in the Iroquois land claims?

3. Choose either Iroquois religion or warfare to describe generally and with some specific examples. Compare it to beliefs held today about those two subjects.

4. Why and under what rationale was the Indian Claims Commission founded? Give an example of how its treatment of a case exemplifies the ICCÕs bias.
