COURSES

The Writing Program at Rutgers University, Camden offers three core courses,       099, 101 and 102, as well as ESL courses on two levels.
Basic Writing Skills (099) is a remedial course with emphasis on sentence skills,  paragraph coherence and reading comprehension.
Composition 101 provides training in various modes of writing: narration, exposition, definition, comparison-contrast, cause-effect and argumentation.
Composition 102 guides the student in techniques of conducting research and in writing effectively organized and appropriately documented research papers.

PEDAGOGY
Three pedagogical assumptions underlie our teaching practice: (1) that writing is a process encompassing several stages of planning, drafting and revision; (2) that students should be exposed to a diversity of reading materials on which they write frequently; and (3) that students' problems in writing should be addressed primarily through individual conferencing.

WRITING ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
A number of undergraduate students work as Writing Assistants in the Learning Resource Center. Their function is to provide individual assistance to students needing additional attention.
