In the PC labs a program known as PLSLOGIN or PLSGINA handles authentication.  This program was designed at the New Brunswick campus to coordinate PC logins between students who may work on other campuses.  It is a front-end to a Windows login process that utilizes the users UNIX email account name or NETID and verifies their authenticity against a kerberos server.  With this setup a student from the Newark campus can use PCs on the Camden campus with no problems.  The lab PCs themselves start up in a “guest” mode with their own private password then the PC displays a login screen with a campus ID menu to select from.  The user then types in their user name (NETID) and password which then permits the user to access software products and I/O devices (printers, scanners).

On that first login screen is an option call “Make Account” which allows new users to set up their own user name and password.  The system walks the user through the process with help and suggestions.

In the open lab BSB 117 there is a menu item for the “Make Account” process because the login is different in there.

Passwords must use at least 3 classes of characters.  Classes consist of numbers, lower case letters, upper case letters, and some special characters like the percent symbol (%).  The length of the password must be from 6 to 8 characters long, i.e. 1aA2Bb%% (4 classes) not 1234abc (only 2 classes).

If a user forgets his or her password, they must stop by our offices with a valid student ID to have it changed.  Please make note, we cannot find out what your password is, we can only change it.

When creating a user name please keep in mind that usernames show up on all email you send.  So, be careful of what your username denotes about you since it may be going to a perspective employer.  Normally user names are last name with some initials.  The system will make some suggestions.
