Not so short introduction to LaTeX is available in several formats,
but you should choose the pdf (or pdf.gz) version because the ps
versions are formatted for 2-sided A4 or A5 paper.

with several good introductions to latex. In particular, there is the 27 page
"Essential Latex ++", which describes how to set text
in LaTeX, and its 6 page supplement, "Essential Mathematical
LaTeX". There is also the more philosophical 72 page "An

- CTAN, the Comprehensive TeX
Archive Network, is the definitive source for LaTeX packages
and TeXware generally. A useful interface to CTAN is the
online catalogue.

newsgroup devoted to TeX and LaTeX.
- TeX FAQ, answers to
frequently asked question, with a searchable index.
- If you want to install TeX and LaTeX on your own personal computer,
there are several possibilities. Free implementations of TeX for many
operating systems are available at
CTAN:/systems.

There is a commercial WYSIWYG front-end for
LaTeX called Scientific Word, as well
as a companion program Scientific WorkPlace that
additionally has an embedded copy of Maple.
