Sam certainly was a cause of the injury. (So were lots of other people, of course.) If Sam had not left the keys in the car, Robert would probably not have stolen it and Harriet would not have been hurt.
But should Sam be liable? Does he owe a duty to Harriet? Was her injury foreseeable?
