Really? Even if it's not considered polite to sue one's host, one can still do so. Should negligent drivers be allowed to escape liability because someone else is also negligent?
In the 1930's several states passed guest statutes at the behest of insurance companies to prevent automobile guests from suing their drivers for ordinary negligence. Almost all of these statutes have now been repealed or found to violate a state or federal constitutional provision. See page 198 of the textbook.
