I consider teaching to be an experience of
"happening", where intent is the spark that triggers synergistic
growth and learning. On numerous occasions, I have found my ability to listen,
to care and to reserve judgment as the key to the unfolding of better methods
of instruction. These new techniques typically evolve through a group effort,
which could never have been developed by any one person in isolation. I
continuously experience the truth of my statement,
"If I coerce my students they may yield,
If I nurture them long enough they will reveal"
When
I see myself falling short in my striving for these truths, I try to visualize
and feel the potential of this process - one that is rewarding in and
of itself.
