ASSIGNMENT ONE: Scanning and PrintingProblem

Problem
Scan one of the typeface sheets you like, by going through Photoshop.
Scanning using these parameters:
150 DPI
Grayscale
Tiff file
Name the file the actual name of the typeface.
Save onto a zip disk.
Print out a copy through the laser printer.

The purpose of this project
To get adjusted to MAC Interface.
To learn to how to use the scanner and scan images.
To understand the basics of printing and how print to the laser printer in the lab.

 

ASSIGNMENT TWO: Illustrating Type

Problem
Understanding typographic form is essential for any graphic designer. Drawing can be a
means of exploring it. Assignment 2:Illustrating Type examines typographic form in the context
of learning Adobe Illustrator. The assignment attempts to gives students a broad overview of the construction of letterforms.
Using the typeface scan, from assignment one, as a template in Illustrator trace the individual
letters needed to spell out one of the following headlines:
Gore Versus Blair
The Right Judge?
Why Iraq Can’t Be Deterred

Put your scan file in a folder entitled “Assignment 1”
In a folder entitled “assignment 2” create two illustrator files:
1. One file composed of two layers. Layer one should contained your scanned image and layer two should contain your traced letterforms. (Save file as: Traced type)
2. In a second Illustrator file, arrange and compose your traced letterform, print out one of
the headlines on an 8.5 x 11 sheet. Black and white only. No color. See attached sheet
for format. (Save as: arranged type)The purpose of this project
To get familiarize yourself with the drawing tool in Illustrator.
