Introduction to Computer
Graphics 50:080:213 is an entry level design class for the purpose of providing
design students with the technical skills and computer literacy to implement
and produce graphic solutions. It is important to look at the computer and computer
skills as tools used during the graphic process. They are not the idea generators.
As designers, you create the conceptual model and turn to the computer (the
tool, as like a pen, brush, or even canvas) to produce and visualize the idea.
When exploring graphic computer programs, the classes will be an introduction
to the interface. It is up to the individual student to experiment and find
the aspects of each program that is suitable to his or her style and methodology.
Assignments in this class are ment to challenge the students exploratory ability
and level of resourcefulness; asking students to go beyond the basic skill levels
and experiment with the capabilities of the programs.
This class requires
students to put in a high level of individual commitment and perseverance. I
am here to help you, but not interested in holding your hand through a graphic
program. Students are asked to invest a high level of logic, time, and personal
motivation into the class. This is an extraordinary demanding course that will
require a lot of commitment and initiative on your part. You will be asked to
spend at least twice as much time working outside of class as we will spend
in class. In actuality, you may find that you need to spend considerably more
than that amount of time.
This semester Introduction
to Computer Graphics 50:080:213 will provide an overview of
the following programs:Illustrator, Photoshop, Quark Xpress, (if time permits)
After Effects and Dream weaver.
