Selected papers will be published in Mickle Street Review, a journal of Whitman and American Studies

Call For Papers

The English Department at Rutgers in Camden, the city of Whitman’s final home, in cooperation with the Mid-Atlantic Regional Center for the Humanities at Rutgers-Camden, calls for papers that celebrate the sesquicentennial of Whitman’s great song and define the sense of place that Whitman brought to his work and to American poetry.

We seek papers that break new ground in addressing Whitman's presence in specific physical and cultural landscapes, the reception of Whitman's poetry in various regions, including cyberspace, and the "place" or siting of such cultural conditions as childhood and gender in his work.

To submit, please send a one-page abstract to Ms. Emily Beach at waltwhit@camden.rutgers.edu, or at Walt Whitman Conference, English Department, Rutgers University, 311 North Fifth Street, Camden, NJ 08102, by January 31, 2005. Finished papers should be 8-10 pages, capable of being read in 20 minutes or less. Please note on your abstract your technological needs for your presentation.
