We often recieve "news" about stocks in email. Someone is reporting some huge event, about to happen, that will move the price of the stock radicaly. (It's always an upward projection - even though in real life we know stock prices move up and down.) The common term for this is "pump and dump". Someone hypes or pumps up a stock to push up the price so they can then sell or dump their holdings at an inflated price. Detailed Information about this type of stock and their companies can often be found at http://www.pinksheets.com.
The following are screen shots of information about a company that I received "News" about.

Note the multiple company name changes and the multiple reverse stock splits to give the stock some value above a penny.

This is the first screen of the "pinksheet" web page. Note the tabs available to track infomation about the company even to SEC filings which can be interesting in tracking large stock sales by company insiders.
