Advanced TAX Project:

President Bush has promised to cut taxes.

In general, Democrats are against anything the president wants to do.  While, in general, Republicans are in favor of what the new president wants to do.

(Some background – after the 2000 election.)

I had expected the Democrats to brag about “how good the economy was under former President Clinton”.  But instead I’ve been hearing discussions from long-time Democratic leaders about how bad the Reagan tax cut was and we should not be doing this again.  That tax cut was 20 years ago – why are Democrats saying they made a mistake voting for it?  Was it a mistake?  Did the Reagan tax cut cause tax revenue to fall because “the rich” were no longer paying their share.  Did the Reagan tax cut cause huge deficits that we are still paying off?

The Democrats will say “Yes” to these questions.  The Republicans will say “No” to these questions.

Your mission is to use a WEB browser to search the archives of the Federal government and find tax revenue figures for the years 1960 through 1998, as well as, Federal deficit figures for those same years.

Gather the information into an EXCEL spreadsheet.  (Find tax revenue and Federal deficit figures for the years 1960 through 1998)

Use that information to analyze the statements found at

   <http://www.ctj.org/html/cg1998.htm>

Are the conclusions in the article resonable?  Use your EXCEL data to prove it.
