Women's & Gender Studies is an undergraduate interdisciplinary
minor for students who wish to explore gender as a social construction that
shapes our thoughts, values, accomplishments, and relationships. Connected
to this is the study of how other social categories – especially race and
class -- affect our reality. In other words, Women’s & Gender Studies is not
only for and about women. Though it often concentrates on women’s lives and
contributions, it also examines and analyzes how we all exist within a
complex web of social inequalities and privileges.
MINOR: The Women's & Gender Studies minor is available to all
undergraduates, whatever their major. Students take 18 credits in courses
related to women or gender, including Introduction to Women's & Gender Studies (3
credits) and Senior Seminar in Women's & Gender Studies (3 credits). A wide range of
courses counts toward the 12 elective credits, but no more than 6 credits
from a single department will count towards the minor and 6 credits must be
at the 300 level or above.
MAJOR: A student-designed major in Women's & Gender Studies is possible in
consultation with the program director.
Declare the minor at any time by downloading this form (click here)
and turning it in to the Registrar (first floor in Armitage Hall) or to
the Office of Academic Advising (311 Cooper Street). For information
