This has been one of the most fruitful experiences that I have ever had. Dr. Li provided an excellent opportunity for me to be exposed to a critical aspect of science, the research, and extending my understanding and participation beyond the study of science. She has inspired me by being the best role model someone could have in their life. The encouragement, challenge, and experience has taken me to a different level and in the future, I would hope to contribute to research in the medical field. This experience has been very challenging because when one is involved in research, no longer are you just thinking about what is already understood but one is required to be creative, analytical, and draw conclusions based on data and what is known. Thus, one is creating the path or a new dimension. I learned about techniques, procedures and how to analyze data with a scientific mind set. Involving myself in Dr. Li's research has also given me the opportunity to create something that has never been synthesized before. It is so rewarding to know that I have contributed something in my lifetime to the enhancement of chemistry. Over this past year and during the next few weeks, I have and will present my research in symposiums and conferences. This has been very helpful because I rarely speak in front of an audience. Speaking in public and to an audience has been difficult for me but having to give my presentations has made it a little easier every time and I feel more confident in my ability to do so. These are important lessons and basic skills sthat I can carry with me to any type of scientific research in which I am involved. I hope that in the future after attending medical school, I will have the opportunity to participate in clinical medicine where I can apply these basic skills and contribute to improvement of an individual's health through medical research.
