PHYSICS I
LABORATORY

Meeting Times WF 9:05 AM-12:00  PM, W 4:30-7:25  PM F 1:20-4:15 PM
(NOTE: Only attend one.)
Room BSB 420
Instructor: Israel Gurfinkiel
Course description: Students will conduct simple laboratory exercises, demonstrating phenomena discussed in their physics lecture. In the process, students will make proper graphs, using them to analyze data. Also, students will be exposed to the statistical treatment of data.
Grading Policy Quizzes: 30%
  Laboratory hand-ins: 40%
  Written Final Exam 30%

Every lab session will begin with a question period, answering any question on the previous week's lab. Afterwards, a quiz will be given based on the lab questions (of the lab completed the previous week). This will be followed by a discussion of that day's lab and a question period, answering any question on that day's lab. Then, the students will break up into lab groups and conduct that week's lab.

After the completion of a lab section, there is a hand-in to be completed, as well as, postlab questions. Hand-ins must be e-mailed to the instructor by the end of the lab section attended; no late hand-ins will be accepted for ANY reason.

Since there are four lab sections, if a student misses a lab for ANY reason, they may make up the lab in another section without penalty. The hand-in is due at the conclusion of the lab section attended. If a student is absent the entire week, or there are no more sections remaining to attend that week, there is an opportunity to make up the lab during make-up day WITHOUT PENALTY. However, only two (2) labs may be made up on make-up day.

Due to the close proximity of students in the lab, it is unfair to come to class while ill. If you are infectious, please, do not come to class! There are opportunities to make up the lab with no penalty. However, due to the hands on nature of the course, your presence is required; if you miss (with out making up) MORE than two (2) labs, you can not pass the course.

The written final exam is based on the lab questions as well as, anything discussed in class.

Lab hand-in Don't forget to fill out your hand-in before the conclusion of your laboratory section. The lab hand-in is found here!
