This interdisciplinary Science, Technology
and Society course covers the historical development of computers and the
Internet, their implications for the ways we think and communicate, and
how they are likely to develop in the future. We will experience
cyberspace as well as study it by using the Internet for much of our work.
This is a "paper free" course - all
readings and assignments will be on the Internet. On the first day
of class, we will go over how to open an account at the Rutgers Camden
computer center and use the systems there. Instructions are online
at: http://crab.rutgers.edu/~goertzel/signingup.htm.
All reading materials, assignments and course information will be posted on the Daily Schedule and Announcements Page. If you miss a class, you should check this page to find out what you missed. Be sure to reload the page to get the latest information. All assignments must be submitted to the WEBCT course management system by the posted deadlines. Assignments will not be accepted or paper or as email file attachments. Instructions for Submitting Assignments to WEBCT are available online.
This is not a distance learning class, although we will put as much of the material online as possible. Some films and other materials will not be available online. This class will meet at 6 p.m. in room 401 Penn (above the library, enter on the side facing the law school, the door that shows in the picture with the statue of a face). On some evenings, after we are done with the day's work in room 401, we will move to the PC lab in the Business and Science Building, Room 108/109. If you come late and don't find us in 401 Penn, look for us in BSB 108/109. Lab hours are here.
