Review Guide for the First Exam

• The goal of this exam is to make sure everybody understands the theoretical models we will be using for the rest of the semester.

• The exam will be multiple choice.  There will be questions which ask you to choose between three or four theoretical models, or typologies within a model, e.g.:

• Which type of generation is most likely to be alienated and cynical:  a.  idealist  b. reactive  c.  civic  d.  adaptive

• Which theory focuses on trends in the economy, especially on the "supply" side:  a.  social class  b.  pluralist   c.  elitist
• In reading the article on Generational Cycles in Mass Consciousness focus on the Strauss and Howe theory, the others need not be studied in detail.
• In reading the book Generations, focus on the  Study Questions on Strauss and Howe distributed last week.
