The first step is to choose a topic. Your topic should be in the general area of: "how computerization is changing the way we think and work in [your topic of interest]." You should choose a topic from among those covered in the articles on the Links on Computers and Society page.
The next step is deciding what you want to communicate about the topic. You should think of this as a "residual message" - what you hope people will retain from your presentation after you are finished. If you don't know what this message is, you need to think it through before you organize your presentation. You should be able to write it out in a paragraph, such as the following:
I want people to understand that the brain is divided into about 100 major components, and that intelligence emerges from the interaction between these components. I want them to remember that the Webmind software is designed to roughly mimic the structure of the brain by including major components that interact with each other. These components are not fixed, they continually reorganize themselves in interaction with each other. Thoughts and ideas emerge as these components interact with each other, transform each other, recognize patterns in each other and create new components.
The next step is to organize your message into major parts. For your assignment, you should have three major parts, each of which will be a separate WEB page or Power Point Slide. For example, you could organize the paragraph above into three major points. These should NOT be topics, such as the following.
Wrong:
1. How the Brain Works
Wrong:
2. Parallels Between Webmind and the Brain
Wrong:
3. How Webmind Will Think
Instead they should be substantive points, such as the following:
1. The brain contains about
100 major components that are continually interacting with each other.
2. The Webmind software is
designed to mimic this structure by containing separate structures that
interact with each other.
3. Webmind is intended to
"think" by having these separate structures interact and influence each
other.
NB: These Three Substantive Points should be submitted in Assignment Three.
The next step is to organize each of the three parts into three sub-parts. At this point, you can give each of them a title, e.g.,
How the Brain Works
