STS:  Internet and Society         November 5, 1999

Today we will do two things:

  1. Review the major types of computer programming languages, with emphasis on the Java object-oriented language
  2. Review the basic logic of the Webmind artificial intelligence system as it is programmed in Java
I've put both these topics on the same day because Ben expects to be with us today and I want to take advantage of his first-hand experience.

There are two readings:

  1. Webmind's Digital Environment
  2. How Webmind Works
The readings for the rest of the course will be less technical, so you will have time to catch up if you find these hard going.  I will have a lecture outline posted shortly.
