Celia Gutierrez sent me this query about her new homepage. The
answer
should be of general interest so I am sharing it with the list..

I checked it out your WEB page and found that you succeeded in
opening
your account. Congratulations! When you do that, Geocities puts
their
default index file up for you, which is nice of them. The next
step is
for you to create a file of your own choosing for your index page (in
Netscape Editor or Composer) and upload it to replace the default one
they have put there for you.
To do this:
1. Create the file you want using Netscape Composer or Netscape
Editor
or a word processor which can save files in HTML. Or you can
use the
editor on Geocities for this if you prefer. The content can be
as
simple as the following, but Geocities offers tools to add graphics
and
other stuff::
Hi! My name is Celia Gutierrez, I'm a student at Rutgers University
in
beautiful Camden, New Jersey. I opened this page to post my term
paper
from a course in The Internet and Society. Later I may put more
things
on it.
The word "term paper" should be a hyperlink sending the reader to a
file
called stspaper.html which you will send later.
2. Log on to http://geocities. com and click on Member's Area
3. Click on File Manager
4. enter your account name and password
5. Go to EZ File Upload, type in the name of your file and upload
it.
(or go to their editor and create a file right there if you prefer)
6. If you haven't done so already, you might want to change the
password they emailed to you to one of your own choice.
