1. Conduct at least six interviews using the questionnaire you developed for Assignment Eight. If several of you are collaborating, you should use the same questionnaire.
2. Decide if you wish to use the Student Microcase software or the Microcase Professional 4.5 software. The advantage of the student software is that you may have it installed on your home computer from the Research Methods course. The disadvantage is that it does not allow you to save your file. This means you have to do the assignment at one sitting and print it out. If you are collaborating with other students on a joint project, one person will have to enter all the data at once. If you use the professional software, you will have to work in the computer center.Sign onto a computer using your clam password and look for the Statistics folder on the Windows desktop. Click on the Microcase Network Edition 4.5 icon.
3. Define your data file. If you have the book Social Research Using Microcase, you will find instructions on pages 259-264. If you do not have the book, just open Microcase and go to the File Management Menu and open a new data file. Then go to the Data Management menu, and define your variables. The format of your variables should follow your questionnaire. For open ended questions, create a set of answers based on the range of responses you obtained. Use the online help for instructions. I will also demonstrate this in class.
4. Once you have defined the variables, go to "Enter Data" and enter the cases.
5. Finally, go to the Statistics Menu and print out the Univariate Statistics for each of your variables.
6. Bring the printouts of your univariate frequencies to class to turn in with your assignment. If you wish to submit this to WEBCT, you need to paste each of the univariate frequencies into a Word file and submit them that way. I do not think they can be pasted into an html file. Pasting them into a file is more work, but it also gives you the opportunity to prepare a more finished report. You can then print this report for an extra-credit Poster Session report if you wish. I am allowing extra time for WEBCT submissions.
7. Write a brief summary of your findings here and staple this page to the top of the printouts:
Name(s) . .
Title of Project . .
Summary of Findings (give three main conclusions, one sentence each):
1.
2.
3.
