** This assignment
must be TYPED, not written by hand. You may open this

Then you may print it out and bring it to class, or submit it to WEBCT.
If
you submit it to WEBCT, it must be in html or ascii format, not
Word or Wordperfect or another word processing format. If you use
ascii format, use one with line breaks.
I am not leaving any space for written answers, since the space will expand
as needed in your word processor. **

For this exercise, you will prepare elements of a proposal for a survey to be conducted for use by a criminal justice agency. Type answers to each of the questions:
1. What agency would this questionnaire serve? It could be a police department such that in New York or Lansing, but it ccould also be any agency that is part of the CJ system (courts, probation, prisons, etc.) You may find it useful to choose an agency that you work for or would like to work for. Briefly describe the agency's mission. [One paragraph].
2. What information could you gather that would be useful to this agency? In most cases, this will be information from clients or the general public, e.g., citizens of the community the police department serves. However, I am also open to proposals for surveys of agency personnel, prisoners, etc. Your goal here is to sell the agency leadership on the value of funding this survey. Tell them how they can use the information. [This should be a series of bullet points - at least three points, at most five. No more than 100 words per point].
3. List and explain three key "hypotheses" about what you are likely to find. What do you expect the results of the survey to be? Will you be finding out about attitudes or behaviors? If you are focusing on attitudes, indicate why you think knowing about these attitudes would help to predict behavior. [Three paragraphs or bullet points, no more than 100 words each].
4. Write three sample open ended or unstructured questions you might use.
5. Write three sample forced choice or structured questions you might use.
