A webpage with the complete IUPAC naming rules for organic compounds.

I will be using Dr. Roche's lecture notes for this course.
I will also be using his old quizzes and exams as templates for the quizzes and exams I will be giving.
Dr. Roche's quizzes and exams can be found on his web page.

Lecture notes can be downloaded or photocopied from the reserve section of the library.

Model kits available in the bookstore can be very helpful with Stereochemistry (Ch5).

There are no makeup's for quizzes or exams. Missed quizzes and exams will be recorded as a score of zero.
There is no extra credit.
There will be no incompletes. All grades will be submitted to the registrar within 48 hours of the final.

It is essential to be able to draw proper Lewis structures (1-4 and 1-5, pages 7-10).
This will allow you to draw resonance structures (1-9, page 14-17). The PROBLEM SOLVING HINTS on pages 16 and 17 will help.
Resonance structures are needed to write a mechanism (introduced in chapter 4). Also see the appendix 4A, page 1218-1220.

Solutions to select quizzes and exams are available on electronic reserve. Go to Rutgers Libraries. Then click on IRIS. Click on reserves. Look under my name. There are two pdf files (approximately 40 pp.) to download.
