LAB
SAFETY RULES
Report all accidents
and injuries no matter how small to your
lab instructor immediately.
- You
must wear safety goggles at all times.
- Contact
lenses are not permitted: trapped chemicals may cause injury to the eye.
- Know
the location and use of the closest eyewash, safety shower, and fire
extinguisher
- If
you get chemicals in the eye, immediately flush the eye with copious
amounts of
water from the eyewash
- Legs and
feet must be properly covered and
protected from potential chemical spills.
NO open toed shoes or sandals are permitted in the lab. Shorts and capris are not permitted in the
lab. Improperly dressed students will be ejected from the lab.
- Lab
coats must be worn at all times.
- Long
hair must be tied back.
- No
eating or drinking of any kind in the lab.
Food and beverages must be kept outside of the lab.
- Thick
latex kitchen gloves must be worn when working with chemicals. Thin gloves sold at the bookstore do not
provide enough protection.
- Horseplay
in the lab is unacceptable behavior and cause for immediate ejection.
- Keep
book bags in designated places only. Do not place them on the bench top.
- Always
dispose of your waste in the designated containers.
NEVER POUR ANYTHING DOWN THE DRAIN, unless advised by your
instructor to do so!
- Please
ensure that your bench top and sink are cleaned prior to your leaving
on lab
day. This will help prevent contamination of glassware, notebooks, etc…
- You are not permitted in the lab
if you are pregnant. Anyone who would like to discuss this
further should see Ms. Rabinowitz or their lab instructor.
- Inform
your instructor if you have a medical condition that requires special
consideration.
