Assignment on MAUS; The Last Days; and Night
Due:  TBA

Write a 2-3 page essay (500-700 words approximately) on the differences you see in learning about the Holocaust through the three different genres we have looked at.   Maus is a "graphic novel," Last Days is a film, and Night is narrative memoir.   Consider some of the following issues:

What do you think was the most effective part of each of these works?

How does the genre affect the way each story is told and its impact on you?

Compare the results of the holocaust on the survivors in each of these stories.   What lessons, if any, do they draw from it?

How does the relationship between parents and children figure into these stories? (i.e., how does the focus on Vladek and Art's relationship, or Elie Wiesel and his father, or the survivors in Last Days and their children contribute to the story in each work?)
