Explanation of Course

Readings:
 -Read ALL Handouts
 -Textbook:   Computer Networking by Rowe 
               Prentice Hall (in bookstore)
    Specific Readings will be given out in class, throughout   
    the semester

Homeworks:
 -various assignments ( 5 - total 150 points)
 -Lan Demo and Tour - Group Project(50 points)

The Lan Demo and Tour Group Project, will be given in a 2-3 hours  
outside of class.  The class will be broken down into several
groups of 3-4 people.  We will talk about this after the midterm.
The Lan Demo is where your group will install a server and then
connect it to an existing client.  The Tour is a short, behind
the scenes tour of the networking/telecommunications 
facilities at Camden Computing Services.

Grading:
 The semester is worth 1000 points total.  Those who accumulate
900 points and above will receive and A.  Those who accumulate
between 800-899 a B, between 700-799 a C, 600-699 a D, and
below 600 will receive an F.  (B+ and C+ will be given
to borderline cases).

Tests:
A midterm (400 points) and a final (400 points) will both be given.
Make sure not to miss tests, since makeups are very very
difficult.

Attendance:
Attendance to every class is also mandatory.  If you miss too
many classes, your grades will obviously drop, and if you
final grade is on the borderline, you will not receive the
higher grade.  (ie. If a persons final grades is a C+, but
they are close to getting a B, and that person has attended
class regularly and has put an effort into the course (via
class participation, attendance, homeworks), then I will
happily bump the person up to a B...otherwise, they get the
lower grade).

Academic Honesty:  All Homework and tests should be done on
your own.  Academic Dishonesty with tests or homeworks
will not be tolerated and will result in the automatic grade of
an F.

Classes:  We will meet, from time to time, in rooms BSB 416 
(instructional lab).  This will be announced ahead of time
in class.
