This assignment must be
completed, saved on your computer's hard disk or on a floppy disk or
memory stick, and submitted to the WEBCT Assignment Dropbox by the
deadline posted on the
Schedule and Assignments Page.
The main purposes of the assignment are to make sure that everyone is
signed up for our class WEBCT, has checked their student directory
information and updated their email address, and is familiar with the
Department Home Page and plagiarism
policy.
The first step is to make
sure you have a valid Rutgers computer username and password. If
you had one in the past and remember it, it should still be the
same. If you do not have an account, you need to open
a Rutgers computer account. As a Rutgers Camden
student,
your account will be on the clam computer, and you will have a username
and password. Your email address will be username@camden.rutgers.edu.
If you have a problem with your clam account, you need to get help at
the
computer center in the
Business
and Science Building. None of your professors have the access
needed to help with accounts.
Once you have a valid
username
and password, you should use it to make sure you are enrolled in the
WEBCT
home page for your course. To do this, go to https://webct.rutgers.edu.
Click on "log into my WEBCT" and enter your clam username and
password.
NOTE: The WEBCT database is normally updated overnight. If
you just opened your account, it may take a day or even two for you to
be entered in the WEBCT data base. If you are not entered in a
day
or two email me and
I'll
try to help. I can enroll people in my course, but you have to
set up your own WEBCT account first.
Once you succeed in
logging
into WEBCT, you will be on your WEBCT home page. You will see the
courses in which you are enrolled. If you enrolled in one
of
my classes and had a valid username at the time, it will probably
already
be there. If it is not, check with me so I can add you to the
WEBCT (assuming you are properly enrolled with the Registrar's Office).
Now go to https:www.acs.rutgers.edu/studentdir
and check to make sure that your student directory information is
up-to-date. All
students in my classes
will be automatically enrolled on the class mailing lists at their clam
address (or whatever address is listed in their online directory
information). If you regularly read your clam email, there is
nothing
else to do. However, many or most students use other email
addresses
regularly and do not check their clam mail. If this is the case
with
you, you should arrange to
have your clam mail forwarded to the other account or go to https:www.acs.rutgers.edu/studentdir
and change your
listed email address to the one you want. This is important
not only for my classes, but also for email that the college
administration
sends to all students or for specific emails that may be sent to you
from
college officials.
Now you are ready to
prepare this assignment to hand in. To do this, you must open it
in your word processor. You may be able to do this by going to
"file" on the browser page and clicking on "edit file" or "edit
with". Or you may need to save it on your hard drive or on a
floppy drive then open it with the word processor. Keep the file
open in one window in the browser and in another in the word
processor. You will need to copy information from the browser and
paste it into the word processor.
Answer these questions in the word
processor:
My name is:
My current email address is :
Now visit the Sociology
Department Home Page. Answer the following questions:
Now save this file on
your
hard drive, your H drive on clam, or a floppy disk or memory stick.
Please save it in *.html or *.doc or *.rtf format (if you use Mozilla
composer, it will save it in *.html).
Then uploadand submit the file to the Assignment Dropbox on our
course's WEBCT page. If you are taking two of Dr. Goertzel's
classes, upload the same file for both classes. Instructions for
uploading are in WEBCT. Be sure you complete the process and it
tells you that the file was submitted. If you choose to ask it
to, it will email a confirmation to you. The WEBCT
assignment dropbox page will also indicate that the file has been
submitted. Once it has been graded, it will tell you that it has
been graded and your grade will appear in the "My Grades" icon in
WEBCT. You can also click on a graded assignment to read any
comments that you may have received (although there are unlikely to be
comments for this assignment).
