within 48 hours of the class meeting, some of them will have earlier

the

they must be submitted on February 2; late essays for reduced

January 31 - Post a list of ideas about the following.
These get posted on the "Makeup Essay" discussion list on WEBCT.
These need not be a polished essay, just a list or jumble of ideas:
- Describe one key idea from Herbert Schiller's The Mind Managers
or
Todd Gitlin's "Prime Time Ideology" that you will explore in your
paper, e.g., "the myth of individualism and personal choice" or
"unchanging human nature" or "the week to weekness of television
series." Also describe three components or aspects of this key
idea.
- Describe one media product you will analyze. This can be
any television show (other than Desperate Housewives, which will be
used for in-class discussion) or radio program or web log or newspaper
column.
- List at least three examples from the media product that
illustrate the various aspects of the key ideas.
