50:680:211. Microbiology and its Application (3)
Prerequisites: 50:120:101,102 or 50:990:253, or permission of instructor, corequisite 50:680:212
Designed primarily for students in the nursing program, will not satisfy the biology or biomedical technology requirements
Structure and characteristics of bacteria, viruses, and fungi, with special emphasis on forms pathogenic for humans. Metabolism and genetics of microorganisms and principles of immunology, host-microbe interactions, pathogenesis of bacterial, fungal, and viral diseases and their medication.

Monday and wednesday 2.50 pm - 4.10 pm, Armitage Building

50:680:212. Microbiology and its Application Laboratory (1)
Lab. 3 hrs. Corequisite 50:680:211.This course is usually taken concurrently with 50:680:211
Basic laboratory techniques for isolating, examining, and identifying bacteria and fungi with emphasis on clinical techniques normally used for pathogenic organisms and their control.

Tuesday 9.00 am - 12.00 am and 1.20 pm - 4.20 pm, Science Building

Fall Semester

50:680:301. General Microbiology (3)
Prerequisites: 50:120:101,102
Structure and characteristics of prokaryotes, eucaryotic microorganisms and viruses and their metabolism, genetics, ecology and use in biotechnological applications. Includes also aspects of immunology and the pathogenesis of bacterial, fungal and viral diseases.

50:680:303. General Microbiology Laboratory (1)
Lab. 3 hrs. Corequisite: 50:680:30. This course is usually taken concurrently with 50:680:301
Basic microbiological techniques for isolating, examining, and identifying bacteria, fungi and viruses and experimental investigation of their characteristics.
